How Are You Today?

Try asking this question to yourself every day and answer it honestly

Feelings are normal, it is what makes us human. 

There is nothing wrong in having them.

When you answer  “Yes I am good, thank you.”

Try describing what makes you feel good, everything and anything that makes you feel good. It doesn’t matter whether they are simple or complex, things such as:

  • The sun is shining
  • I had a good night sleep
  • It is raining outside but I am warm and having a lovely cup of tea
  • I am excited about this new book/project that I am about to start

When you answer “ I don’t feel good today”

Try to identify what makes you feel that way, such as:

  • I feel lonely I have not seen anyone for days
  • I didn’t have a good night sleep
  • I have to a horrible meeting I have to attend on zoom today
  • I am angry at the world, covid-19 is so frustrating

You can describe the reasons behind your feeling as much or as little as you want and can.

Acknowledge both the feeling and reasons

Say it to yourself, or write it down. Writing things down often helps understand your own feelings better.

You can write it in a wall calendar, or start having a daily journal with two or three sentences a day.

Understanding your own feelings is this start of self-care.

If you feel that you are not able to ask yourself the question, you can sign up for someone to give you a 15 minutes phone call to go through this with you here. 

Alternatively if you are feeling isolated, talk to a friend on the phone. Arrange to have check-in calls scheduled with them, it doesn’t have to be every day, it could be every other, day or once a week.

Be honest with them when they ask you the question, and let them be honest to you. Here are more ideas you can do with your friend on the phone or video call.
