Heart and Brain - A Cartoon Blog

Aug 04, 2021

Out of our five vital organs, our Brain and our Heart have the biggest jobs in managing the various functions of our body. Although these organs are cloaked within us and therefore not visual, when we talk about our heart and brain we are often able to conjure up an image.

This is what a graphic designer and cartoonist by the name of Nick Seluk has achieved. Nick has created a popular series of cartoons called Heart and Brain; which follows the inner dialogue between the cynical, society-influenced Brain and the impulsive, optimistic Heart.  Each cartoon illustrates the seriousness of Brain, and the optimism of Heart.

Life has become a fast moving 24 hour a day existence, and it’s become harder for our brain to switch off. Our brain in it’s tired state can become more of a pessimist when it comes to small simple and happy actions.

I'd like to share some of these cartoons with you, which can help remind ourselves to give our brain chatter a little break and embrace what our heart wants a little more - creating a nicer balance of the two. I'll let the cartoons do the talking.

And I end this blog with one final cartoon - the one thing we all have in common is that life sometimes throws us unexpected difficulties and challenges. Life doesn't always care for bullet points (although I shan't be deterred by this and will continue to use them). Donna X
